Microsoft Corporation (MSFT) Ready for Blockchain to Become Mainstream Quickly

We can add Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) to the camp of tech giant’s that believe widespread blockchain adoption is coming. According to one company executive, that could happen as soon as this year.

Investor’s Business Daily shares what the Microsoft executive had to say.

Microsoft (MSFT) believes 2018 will be the year when blockchain finally goes mainstream.

Mark Russinovich, chief technology officer for the software giant’s Azure cloud platform, said a whole range of industries are on the cusp of introducing the electronic ledger technology behind cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin.

Russinovich made his prediction while speaking with IBD at a recent tech conference. He noted that he believes “this year we’re actually starting to see them go into production,” and offered up some insight into what he sees transpiring in the near future with the technology.

“I think this is the beginning of the point where now these technologies are becoming mainstream enough, people understand it enough, that they can begin to deploy it,” Russinovich added. “I expect this to grow pretty rapidly in the next couple of years.”

Microsoft Corporation shares were trading at $100.16 per share on Tuesday morning, down $0.70 (-0.69%). Year-to-date, MSFT has gained 18.15%, versus a 3.32% rise in the benchmark S&P 500 index during the same period.
