Microsoft Corporation (MSFT) Introduces What May Be the Best Subscription Offering in Gaming

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is shaking up the subscription gaming market. A new offering bundles together services that gamers need as well as a gaming console, all for an affordable monthly price.

Business Insider has the details on Microsoft’s new deal.

Starting at $22/month for 24 months, the subscription program comes with an Xbox One S console, two years of Xbox Live Gold service, and two years of Xbox Game Pass access. There’s a second, more expensive tier as well, which comes with the aforementioned $500 Xbox One X console, two years of Xbox Live Gold service, and two years of Xbox Game Pass Access — priced at $35/month for 24 months. You own the console outright at the end of the 24-month term.

For Microsoft, it’s a way to keep customers in the ecosystem while keeping them from hopping to rival platforms. Subscribers that take advantage of the deal can actually save money in the long run.

We’ll have to wait and see if this innovative idea becomes the norm for other gaming companies such as Sony and Nintendo.

Microsoft Corporation shares fell $0.21 (-0.19%) in premarket trading Tuesday. Year-to-date, MSFT has gained 33.02%, versus a 9.71% rise in the benchmark S&P 500 index during the same period.

MSFT currently has a StockNews.com POWR Rating of A (Strong Buy), and is ranked #1 of 68 stocks in the Software – Application category.
